EMDR therapy in Invermere and online

EMDR helps people work through painful experiences that still feel close, even years later. It’s one of the most researched therapies for trauma.

What EMDR can help with

EMDR is best known for trauma, but it can help with much more.

How EMDR works

EMDR doesn’t start with the hard memories. The first sessions are about getting to know you and making sure you have ways to feel steady. When you’re ready, your counsellor guides you to briefly bring up a memory while using back-and-forth movement, like following their hand with your eyes, tapping, or sounds. Many people find the memory feels less intense over time. You stay awake and in control the whole way through, and you can pause whenever you need to.

What the levels mean

EMDR trained

The counsellor has completed EMDR basic training, including supervised practice, and uses EMDR in their work.

EMDR certified

The counsellor has also completed extra consultation hours and experience, and has been approved by EMDRIA or EMDR Canada.

EMDRIA Approved Consultant

A certified EMDR therapist who has completed further advanced training and is approved to supervise and train other EMDR therapists.

All three levels can offer effective EMDR. Certification and consultant approval reflect extra experience and advanced training.
