Gender-affirming care readiness assessments

Some doctors, and TransCare BC for surgery, ask for a readiness assessment before gender-affirming hormones or top surgery. Victoria Cory, RCC, offers these assessments online, with a focus on informed consent and supporting your access to care, not gatekeeping.

All genders and expressions

Welcome to people of all gender identities and expressions, including trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit, agender and questioning people. Victoria can’t provide assessments for bottom surgery; ask your care team about that pathway.

An affirming, collaborative assessment

The assessment isn’t about judging whether your gender or experience is valid. It’s about making sure you have the information and support you need going into care. As a queer counsellor, Victoria aims to make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible, and she follows the WPATH Standards of Care throughout.

How it works

  1. Free 20-minute consult: ask questions and see if it feels like a good fit.
  2. 90-minute online appointment: a conversation about your gender history and expression, your supports and relationships, your hopes for care, and informed consent.
  3. Your letter: written within about two weeks.
  4. Review together: Victoria goes over the letter with you before it’s sent to your doctor or TransCare BC.

Fees and practical details

  • Estimated fee: $390, including the appointment and written letter
  • Online: assessment are by secure video.

Gender-affirming readiness

It depends on your provider. Some doctors ask for one before hormones, and TransCare BC requires one before gender-affirming surgery. Your care team can tell you what they need.

Your sense of your gender over time, how you express it now, the people who support you, what you’re hoping for from care, and what to expect from it. You choose how much to share.

Ask Victoria during your free consult; she can explain how consent works for your situation.

Not at this time. Assessments for bottom surgery are done through a different pathway; your care team can guide you.

Yes. Victoria also offers online counselling for adults and couples, with a focus on 2SLGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients. See Victoria Cory
